Imagine…

4 year old Hailey comes in the bathroom while I’m putting my makeup and asks, “Mom, can I use your glasses for a minute?”
I hesitate, then say, “Just for a second, I have to put them back on in a minute”.
“Okay, well, I uh, um, I need to use them to see what hurts pigs!” She then runs off.
She comes back after a couple minutes and I ask her what she found out.
“Cues” she says.
“Clues?” I ask.
“No, (exasperated sigh), CUES are the kind of birds that hurt pigs!”

Confused? Sorry, I won’t be able to to enlighten you because I have no idea what the heck she was taking about either. I wanted to share the exchange though, because it gives you a good idea of the alternate universe I often find myself in with my four year old twin girls. It’s pretty fantastic, really. They have such vivid imaginations and are able to entertain themselves for hours in their world of pretend. They have pretend a Mom, Dad, and brothers, Paco and Peter that they mention frequently. I don’t feel threatened by pretend Mom, she’s, frankly, often screwing something up or not being very nice. They actually tell me I’m nicer. So funny!

It’s a good example and reminder for all of us to look for a little magic every day. Maybe even pretend we are princesses, in the best sense of the word. Cherish yourselves and remember you can go anywhere you want and be anyone you want – all you need is a little imagination.

Have a happy weekend!
