We celebrated Bob’s extraordinary life in the lovely Aspen Hall at Shevlin Park last Saturday.
Many people, including some of Bob’s family, couldn’t make it, so I thought I’d share his bio from the program and a video Ella put together that we played at the celebration.

(Some of you who were there might even want to take another look so you can see the pictures better. We had all the blinds closed, but we didn’t consider the big skylights that made viewing a projected video less than ideal.)

The celebration began with my brothers Mike, Pat, and Bill, sister Suzanne, and brother-in-law Peter playing guitars and singing some of Bob’s favorite campfire songs as people were welcomed and seated. Our close friend, Kelly, read “On Joy and Sorrow” by Kahlil Gibran, then we played Ella’s video. My brother, Pat, gave a powerful, heartfelt eulogy followed by the song Go Rest High on that Mountain, sung beautifully by my brother, Bill. We closed with a video of some silly pictures of Bob set to Blister in the Sun by the Violent Femmes. My girls and I decided the song was wildly inappropriate, and we absolutely had to include it because Bob wouldn’t have had it any other way. We wanted to close with smiles.

I’m eternally grateful to everyone who helped me make the day happen. I could not have done it without you all, especially my brothers, who I knew had the food, music, and eulogy totally handled. And Sarah G., who decorated the hall so beautifully, capturing Bob’s personality.

If you were there, I appreciated your presence more than you know, and I hope I got a chance to tell you that in person. For those who could only be there in spirit, I hope this blog post finds you so you can know how well your brother/friend/uncle was celebrated. Ella, Hailey, and I will continue to honor him for the rest of our lives by striving to be brave, work hard and smart, apply humor to any situation, and love unconditionally.

    1. Love you too! I hear you are going to be in Oregon this summer. Cristy said she’ll keep me posted and I hope to head over the mountain to see you 🙂

  1. These are lovely pictures and the collection was put together with such love in it. So sorry for your loss.

I'd love to hear your feedback!
